Partnering For a Cause: The Sameer Trust’s Crucial Help During a National Crisis
Emergency Relief Effort: IHF and The Sameer Trust Partner to Support Over 1200 Flood-Affected individuals in Noakhali and Feni
In August 2024, Bangladesh saw climate-change exacerbated flash floodsexposing population centres in the eastern delta to the dangers of continued caloric deficiency and outbreak of water-borne diseases. According to Reuters, more than 70 people have lost their lives, with millions of people still stranded indevastated areas. Damages to the economy of the inundated districts has already negatively affected the overall food supply in the country. A report published on September 10thin TheFinancial Express is estimating damages above BDT 30 Billion in Cumilla alone.
In August, It's Humanity Foundation partnered with The Sameer Trust to design and implement a flood relief distribution program. After conducting an initial needs-assessment, our HQ team and volunteers made their way to Senbag in Noakhali and Dagonbhuiyan in Feni. The packages distributed consisted of rice, lentil, potato, salt, cooking oil, saline and water purification tablets. Furthermore, based on their circumstances, some severely affected households also received mosquito nets, sanitary napkins, diapers and baby food.
Assistance from The Sameer Trust has enabled us to play an active part in the greater relief distribution efforts in the country. We are grateful for this partnership for empowering our teams to provide groceries for over 1200 individuals.
On September 9, we completed the distribution emergency relief packages to Senbag, Noakhali and Dagonbhuiyan, Feni.
