IHF and BacharLorai: Stories of Courage, Hope, and New Beginnings
The July Uprising in Bangladesh marked a moment of bravery and solidarity. People from diverse backgrounds came together, demanding justice and equality. Yet, for many, this struggle came at an immense personal cost. The stories of Emran and Sobhan stand as powerful reminders of the challenges individuals endure—and the strength they summon to rebuild their lives.
Emran’s New Chapter
On July 19, Emran’s life took an unexpected turn. A dedicated worker at a stationery company in Dhaka, his day began like any other. But as the evening unfolded, chaos from the uprising engulfed the city. Caught in the turmoil, a stray bullet struck Emran’s leg, leading to its amputation at NITOR hospital.
The loss of his leg was more than a physical setback—it shattered his livelihood and left him questioning his future. Overwhelmed by the uncertainty, Emran’s resilience was tested. But that’s when It’s Humanity Foundation stepped in with a lifeline.
Through IHF’s rehabilitation program, Emran received physiotherapy at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital. Though the process was grueling, he refused to give up. Realizing life in Dhaka was no longer viable, Emran courageously decided to return to his village in Puthia, Rajshahi, seeking a new path forward.
On December 31, hope arrived in the form of three goats—a gift facilitated by IHF and funded by BacharLorai’s Bangladesh Recovery Fund through the generosity of the North American diaspora.
Sobhan’s Second Chance
Sobhan’s life changed dramatically on August 5. A laborer in Kawran Bazar, he sustained severe injuries from shotgun pellets while unloading goods. The wounds left him unable to work, forcing him into an uncertain future.
Initially treated at Suhrawardy Hospital, Sobhan later joined the rehabilitation program at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital. Unable to support his family in Dhaka, he returned to his hometown in Mehendiganj, Barishal, where he faced immense challenges but found renewed strength through community support.
On December 27, IHF volunteer Emon delivered three goats to Sobhan, made possible by BacharLorai’s Bangladesh Recovery Fund. These goats provided more than an income—they offered a lifeline for Sobhan’s family as he continued his recovery and worked toward a better future.

Key to these efforts was the partnership with Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital, which not only addressed immediate medical needs but also laid a foundation for long-term recovery.
Emran and Sobhan’s journeys remind us that even in moments of profound loss, there is room for resilience, hope, and a better tomorrow. Their courage, combined with the compassion of countless individuals, illustrates the power of unity in overcoming adversity.
While the scars of the uprising linger, these stories shine as beacons of possibility. They show us that, together, we can restore dignity, rebuild lives, and ensure no one is left behind. It’s a collective effort that proves, even in the darkest times, humanity can prevail.
